You may have come across the term "eSIM" and wondered what it means or what and eSIM actually is. 

As a further development of the classic SIM card, eSIM is a chip permanently installed into a device by the manufacturer. This chip can be programmed to work just like a normal SIM card.

The term eSIM (short for "Embedded Subscriber Identity Module") describes a standardized procedure from 2015 for the authentication, storage and management of user data by a respective network operator.
